I Was Unborn in a Small Town
The setting for each series is a small isolated community. Twin Peaks is a small town in Washington, Peyton Place is a small town in New Hampshire, and Collinsport is a small town in Maine. Local landmarks such as inns, cafes, bars, schools, beaches, bodies of water, mountains, hills, cliffs and overlooks, bookstores and libraries, Sheriff's stations, cemeteries, stretches of road, and historical private dwellings all factor significantly into each series. In addition, in Grace Metalious' original Peyton Place novel, there are two churches in Peyton Place, each with large steeples erected on opposite sides of the town creating her own unique version of "twin peaks". Peyton Place, Twin Peaks, and Collinsport each are populated by small town people who harbor dark secrets but manage to maintain a wholesome outward facade.
